The 16th Assembly District will be receiving increased funding in the 2006-2007 state budget to provide the Town of North Hempstead and local villages with assistance for road improvements, announced Assemblyman Tom DiNapoli (D-Great Neck). "The funds provided under the Consolidated Highway Improvement Program (CHIPS) will allow the Town of North Hempstead and local villages to resurface, reconstruct, rehabilitate and replace roads," said DiNapoli.
Originated in 1982, the CHIPS program assists municipalities finance construction, reconstruction and improvement of roads, bridges, and railroad crossings. The Town of North Hempstead will receive $421,667 this year, an increase of $47,973.
