Town Emphasizes Value of Sharing Equipment and Services
The Town of North Hempstead hosted an Intermunicipal Workshop on May 25 at the Harbor Links Golf Course clubhouse for municipalities within the town, including villages, special districts, school districts, fire companies and libraries. The stage was set early on for a major focus of the gathering, sharing equipment and services to attain greater economies of scale. The Harbor Links parking lot was a veritable heavy equipment Jurassic Park with the showcased "available to share" equipment dwarfing the cars parked around them.

For Rabbi Abner Bergman of Temple Judea of Manhasset, it all began with a book. A tattered book of Yiddish stories that lay in his grandfather's hands. A book that, in his eyes, linked an older, European generation of Jews with a more secular American generation.

On the Bay
Now that Memorial Day has behind us, and the "unofficial" start of the summer has begun, it's just about the right time to wrap up communication on the frostbite fleet on Manhasset Bay. On May 13, the frostbiters enjoyed a delightful cocktail hour and dinner at Manhasset Bay YC, followed by their annual awards ceremony. This year there were two fleets racing throughout the winter months: the IC dinghies and the newcomers, the Ideal 18s. The Interclub fleet completed 49 races and sailed on 11 days, with 13 boats competing for prizes. Boat #007, John Silbersack completed the most races, finishing 44 races out of 49. The winners in the IC Dinghy class: A Fleet: Pedro Lorson, Eva Lund, Sabrina Lorson and Johanna Silbersack: 1. Fall, Winter and Spring Series and first place in the Championship Series. Ted Toombs and Matt Cornachio: 2. Fall Series, 3. Spring and 3. Championship Series. Matt Kelley and Alicia (last name not available): 3. Fall Series, 2. Winter and Spring Series, and 2. Championship Series. Claude Chazotte and Flo Paterno: 3.Winter Series. The winners in the Crew Race Series; 1. Catryn Silbersack, 2. Sophia Mitropolous and 3. Flo Paterno. Rookie of the Year went to Sophia Mitropolous.
