During the weekend of June 9 through 11, Temple Judea of Manhasset will be honoring the retirement of Rabbi Abner and Linda Bergman after 23 years of dedicated service to the temple. Rabbi Bergman is a native New Yorker who served in Salt Lake City, Utah and Pacific Palisades, California, before he was called to the pulpit at Temple Judea in 1983. Rabbi Bergman has been active in Rabbinic Associations in New York and on Long Island, Planned Parenthood, and Hospice Care of Long Island. Rabbi Bergman conceived and nurtured to fruition the Holocaust Resource Center of Manhasset, which is housed within Temple Judea and actively educates children and adults about the Holocaust under the direction of Irving Roth. Rabbi Bergman has enormously enhanced the sense of spirituality at Temple Judea, and he and his wife have likewise been positive influences on the development of the temple and the religious practices that make it so personal and embracing.

Rabbi Bergman's wife, Linda Bergman, has been by his side throughout his tenure at Temple Judea. She has been involved in every facet of temple life, providing caring support to the congregants as well as to the community. They are the proud parents of two sons, Dr. Joshua Bergman and Dr. Harris Bergman. Harris is married to Suellen and they have one daughter, Stephanie.

Rabbit Bergman will be succeeded by Rabbi Tod Chizner, who is prepared to lead Temple Judea as the congregation enters its second 50 years.
