New Manhasset Public Library is Launched
On Sunday, Feb. 12 the heaviest snowfall since 1947 curtailed the scheduled opening of the brand new Manhasset Public Library but it seemed the extra week of waiting only increased interest, excitement and attendance when the event occurred without a hitch on Sunday, Feb. 19. Upward of 2,000 people were said to have attended over the course of the afternoon and new library cards were being opened at a fast, steady clip. At the second floor main entrance Celtic music greeted the community, a trio headed by Suzanne Mueller.
Residents Form Oversight Group on Future of Deepdale Golf Course
A group of North Hills taxpayers, voters and concerned residents announced the formation of the Community Coalition on the Future of Deepdale Golf Club, an oversight organization that will consider plans by the North Hills Village Board to condemn and acquire, at public expense, the Deepdale Golf Club. The group includes members and non-members of the golf course as well as golfers and non-golfers, all of whom are village voters and taxpayers united by a common concern that the village is about to burden every village homeowner with a costly plan that will have far reaching impacts on every taxpayer, the group states.
Indians Lose to GNS in Quarter Finals
Well, this time the magic didn't hold. The Manhasset High School Boys Varsity Basketball team lost to Great Neck South (GNS) in another very close and hard fought game, 63-60 to end the Indians season.
Carol Rainson-Rose Inducted into Hall of Fame
Carol Rainson-Rose, a former Manhasset High School graduate, was inducted into the Long Island Metropolitan Lacrosse Foundation Hall of Fame (2005). The 21st annual Hall of Fame Dinner and awards were held at the Sheraton LI Hotel, Smithtown on Friday, Feb. 3. There were eight inductees, including two women.
