The Manhasset Explosion U13 girl's soccer team completed an unbeaten fall season in the Long Island Junior (LIJ) Soccer League. Completing an unbeaten season is a true accomplishment with a final record of seven wins and three ties with an amazing 28 goals scored, the highest number of goals scored by any team in all of the girl's Division Seven teams (15 teams in total).
While every player on the team is a standout athlete, Correy Denihan as the goalie and captain of the defense, managed five shut outs with only eight goals scored against in the 10 games played. Of the 28 goals, Christina Gambino had an amazing and thrilling 14 goals scored followed by some scorching goals by Taylor Liberta, Cathryn Avallone, Caitlin Roberts, Olivia Evans, Jenny Vlahos, Elizabeth Bourguet, and Alison Brosky. Kelsey Denihan ran the sidelines and dug deep to set up many of the key offensive plays. Team members Megan Rose Markham, Augusta Gahan, and Juliette de Venoge made up a remarkable core of a super-tough defenders that blew apart one offensive attack after the other.
Each and every player during this season contributed some super one-on-one plays that thrilled both the parents, and the coaches, and even Ref's! These soccer players worked hard with amazing toughness and field sense, as demonstrated by playing two of the tie games, down one player. That means playing two games for 110 minutes each with only 10 players and no subs and still pulling off tie games. These seventh grade players are from Buckley, the Manhasset Middle School, and St. Mary's. They enjoyed each other's friendship, and genuinely had a real soccer blast of a season. Go Explosion!
The parents, players, and coaches especially want to thank the Manhasset Soccer Club, (especially Mike Iiordanou) for all their hard work in running the soccer club.
