The Manhasset girls cross country team repeated as Nassau County 'B' champions this year. They also placed eighth overall in the county against the larger school divisions.
Lisa Mascali led the Manhasset Harriers by placing 21st in the team competition with a personal best of 20:57. Junior Natalie Bindert followed closely in 24th place in a time of 21:09.1. Sanya Kennedy (32nd) ran 21:21 and Hilary Gallo (22:47) to contribute to the low team score. Carolyn Kim and Kaitlin Powers battled for the fifth and sixth spots for the team, with Meredith Hinz greatly improving the level of our seventh runner. The top five runners for Manhasset finished before runner-up Seaford's fourth girl and the seventh girl for Manhasset beat Seaford's sixth and seventh. It was a great team effort and a terrific ending to the season.
At the state championship, Sanya Kennedy rose to the challenge and ran 20:36 at the Queensbury course. Natalie also ran her best time of the season (20:50) with Lisa Mascali following in a time of 21:22. Hilary Gallo, Carolyn Kim, Meredith Hinz and Kaitlin Powers rounded out the finishers for Manhasset at the state meet.
There were three new members on this year's county championship team. Hilary Gallo, Kaitlin Powers and Meredith Hinz helped make this one of the all time best teams. The team is losing seniors, Lisa Mascali, Kaitlin Powers and Carolyn Kim who will be hard to replace. Natalie Bindert, Sanya Kennedy, Hilary Gallo and Meredith Hinz will be the main nucleus of next year's team. Can they three-peat?
