The Manhasset girls cross country team currently has an undefeated record of six wins, 0 losses. Leading the team has been the job of Natalie Bindert and Lisa Mascali (co-captain). They generally give Manhasset a one -- two punch that is hard to beat. Also in that mix has been junior, Sanya Alexander, along with senior Carolyn Kim (co-captain). Meredith Hinz has been having an excellent year and is currently running in the sixth or seventh spot. Two newcomers, tennis players Hilary Gallo and Kaitlin Powers, have greatly added to the team depth with their strong performances. Jihii Jolly, a junior is also having her best year ever. Freshmen, Kelly Sutherland, Shreya Kumar, and Devon Lawrence are the hope of the future and have been getting their feet wet (literally and figuratively) running some of the 1.5-mile freshmen courses. They have now moved up to the varsity distance of 3.1 miles.

The Manhasset Girls are reigning Nassau County B champions and are hoping for a repeat this year. A strong test takes place this week with a meet against Valley Stream North and an undefeated Seaford squad that they battled with for the championship last year.

As a tune up for the upcoming championship season the girls competed at the Brown Invitational this past Saturday on the very wet and muddy course at Goddard Park on Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island. Although the times were not fast it was a good bonding experience for the team. Natalie Bindert placed 20th, and Lisa Mascali 32nd and led the team as they trudged through the ankle deep mud and driving rain. Carolyn Kim and Devon Lawrence both remarked after the race, "I actually had fun out there!" Congratulations on a great team effort.
