The Oct. 6 edition of the Manhasset Press included a Letter to the Editor regarding Patriots' Park-the first sentence stating that "Patriots' Park would be dedicated to all those who were part of America's history." How nice, I thought; great idea, it's about time. The next sentence confused me, stating, "Does that include Hitler, the Ku Klux Klan, Hirohito, etc."
I thought all those men wanted to do was to add one three letter word to our Constitution. They believed all men are not created equal, but that was a lifetime ago and there was no Patriots' Park.
Back to my confusion-it led to my curiosity-what could be so bad about this park that would cause the writer to end her letter, "what goes up, can come down."
Curiosity may kill a cat but mine had to be satisfied in spite of the rain. So off I went to Patriots' Park.
What a surprise. I was proud of Manhasset, and the people who envisioned this tribute. Proud of those who had the ability, talent and love to make it real. It's a warm and welcoming place for all to visit and it creates a sense of pride in Manhasset and its people.
Go visit, go see it. I don't know what your reaction will be, but I know you'll leave with a tear in your eye, a lump in your throat and a feeling in your heart that what belongs up, should stay up.
