Laughter Is the Best Medicine
In Manhasset everyone arrives late but on Wednesday, Sept. 21 at Barns & Noble there was nowhere to park a good 15 minutes before J.R. Moehringer was scheduled to speak about his best-selling memoir, The Tender Bar. The setting is Manhasset in the bar near the end of Plandome Road, and townsmen packed the book store eager to listen and maybe recapture a smidgen of their youth in that landmark pub, no matter if during their time it was called Gino's, Dickens, Publicans or, currently, Edisons.

Greentree Grant Distributed by Manhasset Community Fund
The Greentree Foundation's generous $150,000 gift for local charities has been awarded by the Manhasset Community Fund to 20 deserving North Hempstead organizations serving children, the elderly and needy families. Winners of the 2005 grant, known as the "Greentree Good Neighbor Fund," were announced at a celebratory luncheon held at the Greentree estate.

Manhasset Football Opens Season Under the Lights
The Manhasset Varsity Football Team opened the 2005 season with a shut out performance, defeating East Rockaway by the score of 35-0. The game was played "under the lights" at what Newsday calls "the best stadium in Nassau County." We know it as Ed Walsh Field.

Denihan Field Almost Ready for Play!
Anyone who has passed by 51 Clapham Avenue in Manhasset has seen quite a bit of action lately. The field in front of St. Mary's College Preparatory High School, Denihan Field, is being covered with field turf. The installation is almost complete, the lines have been drawn, and play is scheduled to begin on Friday, Sept. 30.
