University College London researchers report that midday rests could help people cope with summer heat. Considering likely increased heat waves to come, they suggest naps at noon.

I've criticized these research reports in the past, but this one I love.

The US has a $50 billion identity theft problem. Almost half takes place at universities. The Identity Theft Resource Center reports this and ascribes this activity to laptop thieves and data hackers. (That number at universities seems doubtful.)

Have you ever speculated on the reasons for showing names, ages, pictures and residences of those servicemen who died in the Iraq war?

Can it be to support our war/police effort? Can it be to whip up support for an Iraq abrupt pullout? Can it be a pure effort to honor our deceased servicemen?

The 9 a.m. Sunday George Stephanopolous show and the PBS Lehrer daily news show do this. There are probably others, no conservative TV shows do it, as far as I know.

One cannot imagine TV pictures of individual deceased servicemen on a daily or weekly basis during WWII or the Korean War. There were tens of thousands of them.

Call me cynical.

The National Institute for Safety and Health listed the occupations most prone to death from various diseases:

Alzheimer's: bank tellers, clergy, mechanics, hair dressers.

Pre-senile dementia: dentists, graders and sorters in industry, clergy.

Parkinson's disease: biological scientists, teachers, clergy.

Pass the salt please.

One cannot lie without knowing that the statement in question is false. Those who flaunt the flouting of this elemental definition may find that they will run into counter productivity eventually.
