George Treiber was born July 17, 1915 in New York City. After Brooklyn Technical High School and New York University where he majored in engineering, George joined the New York City Fire Department in 1939. Injuries received at a fire required his retirement in 1948. After completing 20 years in sales with two companies, traveling the US, George formed his own company, LI Electronics Co., later known as GAT Electronics, Inc.

By his side one could always find his lovely wife Pearl, whom he met through their shared passion for sailing. They married in 1940 and moved to Manhasset in 1955 with their three children, Anita, George and Terry. The Treibers became active in all school community activities. They were co-chairs of Anita's Senior Frolic and George supervised the building of the Golden Gate Bridge that spanned the gym for their son George's Frolic. It is little wonder that George named his sailboat Frolic. George and Pearl have been members of Port Washington Yacht Club since 1959.

After all three children graduated from Manhasset High School, George continued to be actively involved in the Manhasset community through the Manhasset Kiwanis. He was voted "Man of the Year" by the Chamber of Commerce in 1998. George joined the board of directors for the Tower Foundation in the mid-'90s, overlapping with his son-in-law and Tower founder, Win Himsworth.

Church of Our Saviour Lutheran was the location of a funeral service Saturday, July 13. George is survived by his wife of 65 years, Pearl, and his sister Marie Bennett. He is also survived by his son George of Portsmouth, VA; his two daughters, Anita Himsworth of Plandome and Terry Jenkins of Devon, PA. George was the proud grandfather of Brett, Caryn and Andrew Himsworth and Jim, Shawn and Adam Jenkins, and great grandfather of Owen Himsworth and Daniel Jenkins.

Donations in memory of George A. Treiber may be made to Tower Foundation of Manhasset (PO Box 421, Manhasset, NY 11030) and Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center Foundation (PO Box 543, Manhasset, NY 11030).
