By his own admission, Bush Jr. does not read very much. Apparently he did not read his father's book, A World Transformed, or he would have had second thoughts about invading Iraq. The Gulf War (Bush Sr.) occurred in 1991. As you may recall once our troops drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and beat the Iraqi army we discontinued invading Iraq and let the mostly intact Iraqi army withdraw (as it turned out to slaughter rebelling Shiites and Kurds).
Bush Senior's book, A World Transformed, was largely an account of the Gulf War. It was published in 1998 some seven years after the Gulf War. Bush Sr. said he was harshly criticized for not going on to Baghdad. Here I am quoting his reply to that criticism. "Had we gone the invasion route, the United States could conceivably still be an occupying power in a bitterly hostile land. It would have been a dramatically different - and perhaps barren - outcome" (note that this was written seven years after that war). A prophetic statement indeed. Too bad Bush Jr. did not read his father's book. This quote is from page 489 of Bush Senior's book. For those of you who wish to apply an "out of context" rebuttal, a common current tactic, I urge you to read Bush Senior's book and then send a Letter to the Editor of the Manhasset Press.
