In this sudden onslaught of warm weather it is a cooling thought to go back to the recently ended ski season.
In late March the NASTAR (NAtional STAndard Race) held its National Championships in Park City, Utah. Over 1,000 racers competed. NASTAR is the largest recreational ski and snowboard race program in the world. It is a modified giant slalom racing series. NASTAR has developed a handicap system that allows racers of all ages and abilities to be able to compare themselves regardless of when and where they race. This year 95,000 skiers and snowboarders raced NASTAR gates at 119 premier resorts across the country. One has to win at various resorts in order to earn the right and invitation to the nationals.
Christine Jenne (MHS graduate), the athletic director of the Buckley School represented Okemo Mountain in Vermont. In races throughout the season Mrs. Jenne earned gold at Stratton, Stowe and Okemo and silver at Sugarbush to earn the right to participate in the Women's Giant Slalom 50 to 54 years Expert Division. Chris Jenne placed third! A great way to end the season.
