(Ed. Note: The following letter was sent to the Manhasset Board of Education 2004-05 and is printed here at the author's request.)

At the beginning of this school year, who would have thought that we would have ended the school year with:

A passed budget,

New business official,

An associate business official,

A new outside accounting firm,

A new auditing firm,

Revamped financial practices,

Did I mention a passed budget,

An interim superintendent,

Outsourced busing

Numerous serious items like the teachers contract

And a school system that maintains and exceeds its excellence.

With a rising Nassau County tax structure and concerns expressed about the school budget, the actions and decisions of the 2004-05 board of education have been powerful and event shaping. For the fortitude to make these very difficult decisions, and to stick by them, as one community member, I thank the board.

To our outgoing BOE president Mr. Tom Maimone, a debt of gratitude from our community. Tom's previous years of service as a board member and to our school system have prepared him for this most eventful year as board president.

Best regards for a long awaited and restful recess.
