On Saturday, April 30, Manhasset High School's girl's novice four with coxswain crew won their event at the NJ State Championships held on the Cooper River, Cherry Hill, NJ. The boat consisting of Kira Kennedy (coxswain), Nellie Panzer (stroke), Marina Kajic, Taylor Ferrara, and Cali Giannopoulos was first overall in the qualifying heats, besting 16 other crews. In the six boat final, Manhasset won by over 10 seconds (open water) and posted the fastest time over the 1500 yard course of all girl's junior or novice boats. This is the first State Championship the Manhasset HS Crew has won in its five year history.

In addition, the girl's lightweight eight consisting of Katie Burch (coxswain), Katherine Fink (stroke), Mackenzie Burch, Kathryn McCabe, Caitlin Carey, Ali Fishlinger, Lizzie Gotimer, Agnes Shepanzyk and Chrissie placed fourth in the finals of their event after qualifying sixth over 18 boats in three qualifying heats. The girls bested Nutley HS which narrowly beat them the week before at the Fresh Meadows Lake, Queens rowing course. This will be the site of the rowing events if New York City is awarded the 2012 Olympics.

Two other boats, the boy's lightweight four and the girl's senior four narrowly missed qualifying for the finals by 1.7 seconds and one second respectively. This after rowing for six and one-half minutes.

The coaches, Steve Panzik and David Hilpl are proud of and encouraged by the efforts of over 60 Manhasset rowers who participated in the regatta.

The balance of the regatta schedule over the next four weeks is the LI Championships (Oyster Bay), the NY State Championships (Saratoga Springs), The Stotesbury Cup (Philadelphia) and the US National Championships (Princeton, NJ).
