Katharine B. Gilbert of San Mateo, CA, died on April 23, 2005 at Marycrest Manor in Los Angeles, CA after a long illness. She was 86. Born in Wheaton, IL, she lived in Manhasset, NY and Bernardsville, NJ before moving to California in 1971.
Mrs. Gilbert was an artist and sculptor and was a 1940 graduate of Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA. She was a former member of the Basking Ridge Presbyterian Church where she was active in church activities. While residing in Manhasset, Mrs. Gilbert worked as a volunteer for Abilities, Inc., an organization dedicated to finding employment for the handicapped. Upon moving to New Jersey, she worked as a volunteer helping children with cerebral palsy at the Matheny School in Peapack, NJ.
Her first husband, William J. Milton Sr., died in 1979. Her second husband, Francis E. Gilbert, died in 2000. A daughter, Nancy Milton, died in 1968.
Survivors include her son, William J. Milton Jr. of Short Hills, NJ and her daughter, Lyn Walker of Manhattan Beach, CA. She is also survived by five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 7 at noon at the Community Congregational Church, 200 Hartshorn Drive, Short Hills, NJ. Arrangements are by the Gallaway and Crane Funeral Home, 101 South Finley Avenue, Basking Ridge, NJ 07920.
Kevin R. Murphy of Locust Valley died on April 6, 2005. He was the beloved husband of Kathy and loving father of Tara and Meaghan. Kevin Murphy was the devoted son of the late Mollie and Vincent Murphy; cherished brother of Bruce, John, John, Christopher, and Greg; adored son-in-law of Kathleen and Robert Grant; fond brother-in-law of Robert, Michael, and Meredith Reynolds. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and countless friends. Services were held at The Francis P. DeVine Funeral Home, 293 South Street, Oyster Bay. Celebration of the Liturgy of Christian Burial was at St. Dominic's R.C. Church on Monday, April 11, followed by Interment at the Locust Valley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations would be appreciated in Kevin's name to American Diabetes Association, 149 Madison Avenue, Room 701, New York, NY 10016.
