Recent letters from community members and the Coalition for a Safer Manhasset raised the issue of safety on Plandome Road.

Statistics obtained from data provided by Nassau County referring to locations closest to Plandome Road intersections from 1995 through 2004 reveal the following:

There were approximately 37 pedestrian injuries, 110 occupants of vehicles injured and one killed during the 600 accidents in the Plandome Road area.

In addition, with the inclusion of the Northern Blvd. intersection, there were another three pedestrian injuries, 45 vehicle occupant injuries, 200 accidents and one pedestrian death.

The year with the least car accidents was 1997. That was the year the Bayview Civic Association was successful in having the county make a serious increase in enforcement. Unfortunately, the count is nowhere near consistent when it comes to significant enforcement.
