Beginning April 11, Dr. William A. Shine will serve as interim superintendent of Manhasset Public Schools. Dr. Shine, the former superintendent of the Great Neck School District, was appointed to this position by the board of education during a recent public meeting. He will serve in this role until the board formally hires the district's full-time superintendent. The board is currently meeting with candidates for the vacant superintendent position and hopes to have the next educational leader of Manhasset in district by July 1.

"With over five decades of experience in education- and the past 22 years as superintendent of neighboring Great Neck's school system - Dr. Shine brings tremendous leadership skills and vast knowledge of Long Island's educational landscape to Manhasset," stated Thomas Maimone, board president. "His familiarity with the challenges facing Long Island schools will be an asset to the community during this transitional period."

During his tenure with the Great Neck School District, Dr. Shine also served on the Suburban School Districts Association of New York State Board and on the Education Advisory Council at the New York University Child Study Center. Prior to coming to Great Neck, Dr. Shine was Superintendent of Schools in Cherry Hill, NJ and was previously Assistant Commissioner for Curriculum and Instruction of the New Jersey Department of Education. He holds several degrees from Rutgers University, including an Ed.D. in Social and Philosophical Foundations of Education, a M.A. in English Literature, and an Ed.M. in Educational Administration, as well as a B.A. in History from Iona College.
