For the first time in its 80-year history, the Buckley Country Day School girls' "A" basketball team was undefeated. The team had an incredibly successful winter season with a record of 10-0, playing against GreenVale, East Woods, Waldorf, Holy Child, Lawrence-Woodmere, and Solomon Schecter. The players brought focus and passion to every practice and game. Captained by seniors Alissa Fromkin, Shanelle Gayle, and Laura Wilsusen, the team exhibited fluid teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship in every contest.
Guards Laura Wilsusen and Kelsey Gibson combined their shooting abilities with aggressive defensive play to control the pace of each game. Guards Haley Gahan, Maggie Law, and Nicole Raposo regularly came off the bench and contributed their skills in every contest, especially by creating turnovers.
Forwards Shanelle Gayle, Sydney Esiason, Brittany Elias, Candace Baker, Hannah Duane, Talar Keskinyan, Saba Vahdat, and Katherine Larsen helped each other under the boards through aggressive shooting and rebounding. Center Alissa Fromkin was the teams' high scorer, averaging 14 points per game. Charlotte Otremba filled in as a utility player in both the center and forward positions.
The team's coach, Christine Jenne was very proud of the girls' accomplishments. She was amazed at the growth of her squad's skills throughout the season and how they played hard in every game. "They never gave up and fought back to erase some amazing leads in key games against East Woods and Lawrence-Woodmere." Congratulations to all!
