Alfred E. Toombs

Alfred E. Toombs, 95, of Mount Dora, FL (formerly of Plandome), died on Feb. 18, 2005 after a short illness. He was born in Providence, RI on May 18, 1909 son of the late Alfred and Eva (Staples) Toombs. Mr. Toombs graduated from Brown University, class of 1931. After moving to Plandome in 1947, he served as a trustee of the Village of Plandome and joined the Congregational Church of Manhasset where he served as a deacon.
After working in sales and marketing within the textile industry, he became an economist for Fieldcrest Mills and later owned his own company, Textile Webbing Corp. Shortly after retirement in 1973, he moved to Central Florida.
Mr. Toombs is survived by his wife of 71 years, Elaine Seaman Toombs of Waterman Village, Mt. Dora, FL 32757; his daughter, Joan Toombs Ludlow and husband, Charles of Bristol, ME; his son Alfred E. Toombs, Jr. and wife Kathleen of Glen Head; five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Interment was in Apopka, FL.
