Grace Elizabeth Daly, a longtime Manhasset resident, died peacefully Thursday, Feb. 17 at the age of 86. Born March 3, 1918 in Queens, she graduated from Smith College in 1939 and later earned a master's degree from Columbia University. She served as a substitute math teacher at Garden City High School, then worked briefly for the Mutual Life Insurance Co. and the Guarantee Trust Co. in New York City. She married the late Walter M. Daly, Jr., a major in the Army Air Corps, during World War II. During the war years, she served as treasurer of the National Association of Air Force Women in Washington, D.C. When her husband became a partner in the accounting firm of Arthur Young they moved to Manhasset. Recently she divided her time between homes in Highland Beach, FL and Cape Cod, MA. She is survived by three sons, Richard, Walter and David Daly, two daughters-in law, Gail Ellen Daly and Shelly Daly and two grandsons, Walter Marshall Daly and Ian Daly. Following a Feb. 25 service at Christ Church, burial took place in Nassau Knolls Cemetery.
