The Manhasset Boys Varsity Swim Team began their dual meet conference season by defeating overmatched Uniondale 53-40 and Freeport 94-64. A good start, but hardly anything to get excited about considering their successful past vs both opponents. The Indians have only lost to each team once in the past 10 years. They have defeated both Freeport and Uniondale each year for the past five seasons.
This past week the boys faced their first big test of the season swimming against defending conference champ, number one seed Great Neck North. Last year the Indians were defeated by the Great Neck North Blazers in the last meet of the season with the conference title on the line. This year the number six seeded Indians would make amends for last year's heartbreaking loss. Manhasset defeated previously undefeated Great Neck North 96-81 to improve their record to 3-0. "We competed with tremendous energy the entire meet," stated Coach McGrane. "A championship effort that we need to show in every meet."
The next morning, the boys competed in the Nassau County Relay Carnival, finishing fifth out of the 12 teams that competed. There were many personal best times posted in both meets.
Leading the way were Manhasset's seniors. Jeff Hunt swam a 2:42 200-yd IM and 6:27 500-yd Free. James O'Hanlon swam a 25.27 50-yd free and 57.89 100-yd free. Arya Morshed swam a 2:22 200-yd free and 1:03 100-yd free. Diver Pete Cobos posted a season best 126 points in the 1 meter diving.
Several juniors posted personal bests. Brian Cogan swam a 23.87 50-yd free and 56.2 100-yd free. John Kenneally swam a 25.28 50-yd free and 57.3 100-yd free. Alex Smitham swam a 2:28 200yd IM and 6:13 500-yd free. David Nebel swam a 1:06 100-yd free and 1:25 100-yd Butterfly.

All three relays were season best times. The 200-yd medley relay consisting of John Keneally, Mike Zito, Brian Cogan and James O'Hanlon swam a 1:56.30. The 200-yd free relay, Mike Zito, Jimmy Mulderrig, James O'Hanlon and Brian Cogan swam a 1:42.30. The 400-yd free relay, Brian Cogan, Alex Smitham, James O'Hanlon and Jimmy Mulderrig swam a 3:55.5
