What a season it was for the Manhasset Middle School Girls Swim Team. From the season opening event, a Relay Carnival at Great Neck South on September 29, the Manhasset Middle School Girl's team showed great promise. Despite other teams having two and three times as many swimmers as the Manhasset team, our girls proved that strength was not necessarily the number of swimmers, but in the fewer seconds it took to swim the races. The Manhasset team won most events which was an indicator for the season to follow.
The Manhasset Middle School girls went on to win the following meets:
Oct. 4 - Uniondale Middle School
Oct. 6 - Jericho Middle School
Oct. 12 - Great Neck South Middle School
Oct. 15 - Bethpage Middle School
Oct. 20 - Woodmere Middle School
Until the fateful Friday, Oct. 22 when they were hoping to complete the season on a positive note, Manhasset Middle School girls were edged out by Plainview Middle School. This was a painful loss for the girls; they were hoping to give Coach Larke his first undefeated season.
Many of these meets came down to the final free style relay and were truly pressure cookers for the girls and the fans. Under the direction of Coach Larke, and with the enthusiasm, talent and excitement of the girls, the Manhasset Middle School season was truly a success.
