The Manhasset Girls swim team posted their most impressive team performance at the right time. The venue was the Nassau County Team Championships held at the Goodwill Games Aquatic Center (Eisenhower). The Indians sent a record number 13 swimmers and two divers to the three-day event. The divers Taylor Stoessel and Taylor Fleischacker dove impressively on Thursday night. The thirteen swimmers to compete in the county championships were Morgan Cotter, Amanda Goldstein, Elena Yee, Chrissy Brodt, Johanna LoVecchio, Dana Matesich, Chrissy Gotimer, Whitney Quackenbush, Samantha Reiss, Jaclyn Carey, Christina Vlachos, Meghan Shea and Allison Haspel.

The Manhasset swim team stunned many competitors at the County Finals on Saturday enroute to a third place overall Nassau County finish. In the process the team set three new school records, won two events, placed second in two other events, had a team record 16 final swims and placed 4th or higher in all three relays.

The girls got off to a fast start by dropping three seconds off their 2:03.93 200 yd medley relay to swim a 2:00.73 moving up to third place from their sixth place prelim swim. The relay consisted of Chrissy Gotimer, Samantha Reiss, Johanna LoVecchio and Whitney Quackenbush.

In the next event Manhasset qualifed four swimmers (Chrissy Brodt, Amanda Goldstein Meghan Shea and Johanna LoVecchio) into finals. Sophomore Chrissy Brodt finished a close second swimming a 1:56.77 in the 200 yd free, a new school record. Eighth grader Meghan Shea swam a personal best 2:14.32 in the 200 free.

Junior Elena Yee qualified for finals in the 200 yd IM. Manhasset qualified three swimmers (Whitney Quackenbush, Morgan Cotter, Amanda Goldstein) in the top eight of the 50 yd free. Freshmen Whitney Quackenbush swam a personal best 26.07 to finish second in Nassau County. Johanna LoVecchio and Jaclyn Carey qualified for finals in the 100 yd Butterfly. Freshmen Jaclyn Carey swam a personal best 1:10.06. The Indians qualified three swimmers (Whitney Quackenbush, Morgan Cotter, Chrissy Gotimer) in the finals of the 100 yd free.

Sophomore Chrissy Brodt finished first in the 500 yd free, winning the event in a season best time of 5:15.57.

"Then came the moment we have been all waiting for," states Coach McGrane. The 200yd free relay was seeded third after Friday night. On Saturday the relay team of Whitney Quackenbush, Amanda Goldstein, Morgan Cotter and Chrissy Brodt dropped three seconds to place 1st in Nassau County, winning the event by two seconds. The relay team set a new school record with a winning time of 1:44.05. Congratulations girls!

Sophomore Chrissy Gotimer swam a personal best 1:08.70 in the 100yd backstroke, finishing eighth in Nassau County. Freshmen Samantha Reiss won the consolation heat of finals in the 100 yd breaststroke with a time of 1:16.37.

The 400 yd free relay was the encore of the 200 yd free relay. The girls moved up from sixth place to fourth place by swimming a new school record time 3:56.64. The record relay team consisted of Amanda Goldstein, Morgan Cotter, Chrissy Gotimer and Chrissy Brodt.

Next for the girls is the state qualifying meet on Wednesday, Nov. 10. Good luck girls!
