In the Oct. 28 edition of the Manhasset Press, an article about the Board of Education meeting of October 21 mentioned a presentation by Geralyn Marasco on the use of CLASS for the administration of student testing in reading. The article rightfully gave credit to Dr. Feirsen for being "instrumental in advancing" this project, but regrettably neglected to indicate that the project was fully funded through a grant from the Manhasset Teacher Resource Center (TRC). In addition, it was our Associate Director, Marilyn Chiarello, a member of the NYS Technology Committee, who initially introduced the program to Manhasset after seeing it demonstrated at a Technology Committee meeting in 2002. It wasn't until the TRC provided the funds for the necessary hardware, software, subscriptions and training that the pilot program was launched.

We applaud Mrs. Marasco for her efforts in coordinating this project, and the seven teachers participating with her in this pilot program. They are: reading teachers Margaret Admirand and Edwina Lano, first grade teachers Victoria Lundin and Judith Zoller; and second grade teachers Cheryl Fritz, Teresa Pistorino and Ann Marie Puleio.

The Manhasset Teacher Resource Center supports teachers professionally through a variety of professional development activities. By law, Teacher Centers are governed by Policy Boards that include representation from various groups including teachers, administrators, parents, higher education, and business, with the majority of members being teachers. We operate under NYS funding, for which a grant must be submitted annually.
