Supervisor Kaiman Presents Town Budget
At the regular Oct. 19 meeting of the North Hempstead Town Board, Supervisor Jon Kaiman presented his first Tentative Budget. The normal procedure is for the Tentative Budget to become the Preliminary Budget. This budget goes before the board and the public and, once adopted, becomes the Town Budget. A hearing on the Preliminary Budget will take place on Thursday, Nov. 4 at a board meeting, at which the board and members of the public may comment. Supervisor Kaiman said, in an interview, that the board will probably vote on the budget on Nov. 16.
Legion Post 304 Installs New Officers
On Thursday, Oct. 21, the Manhasset Post 304 of the American Legion held its Annual Installation Dinner at the Swan Club in Glenwood Landing. Past County Commander William A. Baxter performed the ceremony assisted by Richard H. Coyle, sergeant-at-arms and Chaplain William G. Martin of the Manhasset Post. Chaplain Martin opened the installation ceremony with benediction, and subsequently conducted the MIA/POW ceremony and the prayer before the meal.
Hockey Titles Ring True for St. Mary's
St. Mary's Varsity Hockey Team, a program with deep rooted tradition dating back to 1970, has successfully produced many championship seasons over the past 34 years. This tradition continues with the Gaels winning their sixth straight New York State high school championship in 2004 - their ninth in ten years.
Girls Swim Team Finishes Strong
After losing two consecutive meets to #1 ranked Garden City and #2 ranked Long Beach, the Manhasset Girls swim team rebounded to defeat Sewanhaka and Bellmore. The two consecutive wins to finish the season ensure the Indians with their best ever Conference one finish. The girls finish the season with a 9-2 overall record (5-0 division), third place in Nassau County (dual meet season) and Division D Champions.
