MHS Administrators' Response Time Questioned
The Oct. 21 Board of Education (BOE) meeting was held in the Shelter Rock Elementary School auditorium where over 50 teachers sat together to impress upon the board and the administration, as one teacher said prior to the meeting, "that we are here in spite of not having a contract." The meeting began at 8:30 p.m. and the minutes of the past two meetings, Sept. 23 and Oct. 7, were approved with minor changes. At the Oct. 7 BOE meeting it had been decided to put the walking distance back on the ballot. The proposition would be to return to the one-mile walking distance and when it appears on the ballot in May the additional cost will be provided.

Girls Swim Team Captures Division Title
The Manhasset girls swim team had a busy week, swimming Cold Spring Harbor, Farmingdale and Garden City. The girls started the week well capturing the Division D title by defeating Cold Spring Harbor on Tuesday. On Wednesday the Indians defeated Farmingdale 93-82 in front of a capacity crowd to increase their win streak to seven.

Girls Cross Country Track Team Competes at High Level
The Manhasset varsity girls cross country team competed at the Brown University Invitational last Saturday. They placed 6th out of 35 teams entered, from the northeast region. Finishing 16th overall was sophomore Natalie Bindert in a time of 20:21, with Sanya Kennedy (10th grade) close behind in 24th place. Rounding out the top 7 for Manhasset were Lena Edelstein (22:15), Carolyn Kim (22:39), Aditi Kanth (23:30), Dorothea Ehrhardt (23:36), and Sarah LaRosa (24:28). The race was contested at scenic Goddard Park, located on the shores of the Narragansett Bay in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. In the JV race Victoria Belinsky finished first for Manhasset and the rest of the squad consisted of Meredith Hinz, Ashley Cramer, and Erica Herzog.
