Readers of this space know that there is a contingent of residents concerned with the effects of Proposition 2 passed during the May 2004 elections. That proposition increased minimum walking distances in determining eligibility for bus privileges for middle and high school students.

The primary goal of the contingent of concerned parents is to have a new Proposition on the May 2005 ballot that will address the safety and other issues created by last year's Proposition 2.

The immediate objective is to obtain the BOE's commitment to putting an appropriate Proposition on the ballot. One factor that the board will reportedly consider is community interest in the issue. Accordingly, please note Dr. Bozzomo has advised that the board of education will discuss this issue at its meeting on Thursday, October 7 at 8 p.m., to be held in the middle school library.

Residents interested in this issue (particularly parents of affected students, and voters who were confused by the language of Prop. 2) should try to attend in support of putting the issue on the ballot.

If anyone is interested in being added to the e-mail list of concerned parents regarding this issue, forward your e-mail address to either www.lore_ keurian@liz.com or www.dcanfield@cmrllp.com.
