BOE Examines Transportation Snafu
The Sept. 23 Board of Education (BOE) meeting followed the prescribed format and after the Pledge of Allegiance the minutes were approved, changes having been made in advance via e-mail among the board members. A gift of $22,000 was presented by the School Community Association (SCA) to be used for enrichment programs. The board formally recognized the Booster Club for its generous gift of artificial turf for the athletic field.

Manhasset Children's Circus Is Coming to Town
Once again the Manhasset Rotary Foundation has arranged for a Children's Circus, free for children of grade 6 and under. It will be held on Oct. 6 at the field immediately in front of the Manhasset High School. Performances will be at 4:45 p.m. and again at 6:45 p.m.

MHS Girls Win Soccer Tournament
The Manhasset High School Girls Varsity Soccer Team once again has jump started their season by winning the Booster Club's Annual Soccer Tournament. On Friday the girls beat Roslyn 4-2 behind the scoring of Liz Avallone, Ally English and Eileen Ward (2), and the strong defensive play of Laura Care and goalkeeper Caileen Connolly. The championship game on Saturday against Friends Academy saw tournament MVP Megan Clark score the game's only two goals, while goalie Katherine Rainone and the Manhasset defense shut out their opponent.

On The Bay
Thirty nine young Manhasset Bay YC sailors, ages 7 and up, held a regatta recently to benefit the children served by Family and Children's Association, one of the largest nonprofit human service agencies on Long Island. Sailing in their individual 8-foot Optimist sailboats, the youngsters were cheered on by MBYC members and Family and Children's supporters Tom and Ilene Hoban, Commodore John Barry, and parents and friends. A check in the amount of $1,500 was presented to Richard P. Dina, president and CEO of Family and Children's Association. "The hard-work of the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club kids will help to make Long Island a nicer place for less fortunate kids." Said one of the young sailors, "I was so excited last night about helping kids I couldn't sleep!"
