Mrs. Dorothy K. Wooton, 83, of Heritage Village, Southbury, CT, died on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2004 at Danbury Hospital. She was the wife of Harlan S. Wooton.
Mrs. Wooton was born on July 8, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, daughter of Francis and Irene (Brod) Kelly. She was the first woman newscaster for Dumont Broadcasting Co., which became known as WABD, and later one of the major television networks. Her hobby was art restoration. She was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in Southbury. She and her husband lived in Manhasset before moving to Heritage Village.
Besides her husband of 63 years, she leaves two sons, Roger H. Wooton of Port Washington and Greg Wooton of Ronkonkoma; one daughter, Adrienne W. Thomson of Sands Point; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by her daughter, Barbara Samsel.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday, Aug. 30, at Sacred Heart Church in Southbury, followed by burial in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Hawthorne, NY.
