As was reported in the September 2 issue of the Manhasset Press, the artwork created by Ryan Drago, a recent graduate of Manhasset High School, was missing from its featured location in the main hallway of the secondary school complex. Seeing the article regarding the missing artwork in the community's local paper, an employee of the school district immediately contacted Central Administration to notify the district that he had taken the artwork down and stored it at the high school for fear that it would be damaged during the summer school session. Unfortunately, this person's good intentions not only caused confusion and concern regarding the whereabouts of the artwork, but apparently, the piece was damaged due to its being folded several times.
"We are currently examining the extent of the damage to Ryan's painting and exploring alternatives for restoring it to as close to its original condition as possible," stated Dr. Lawrence Bozzomo, superintendent of schools. "It is difficult to fault someone who had the best interest of one of our students in mind when taking it down and storing it for safekeeping. However, in order to prevent this from happening again, we have directed all staff members to make sure they receive permission before removing artwork from our buildings. We have notified Ryan of the artwork's condition and expressed our deepest regrets regarding the honest mistake."
