Not Business As Usual at September 2 BOE Meeting
The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by a partial approval of the August 18 Board of Education (BOE) minutes. Then, approximately 31 residents were present for a resolution to accept a gift of over $74,000 from the Tower Foundation. The gift was divided into four separate parts earmarked for the four different schools and the principal of each school was present, most grateful for their gift from Joe Janik, Tower Foundation president. The middle school received $8,700 to give the school a softer, less secondary school look, by adding framed posters, bulletin boards and hallway improvements.

Ryan Drago Artwork Found
As was reported in the September 2 issue of the Manhasset Press, the artwork created by Ryan Drago, a recent graduate of Manhasset High School, was missing from its featured location in the main hallway of the secondary school complex. Seeing the article regarding the missing artwork in the community's local paper, an employee of the school district immediately contacted Central Administration to notify the district that he had taken the artwork down and stored it at the high school for fear that it would be damaged during the summer school session. Unfortunately, this person's good intentions not only caused confusion and concern regarding the whereabouts of the artwork, but apparently, the piece was damaged due to its being folded several times.

On the Bay
Terry McLaughlin, skipper, along with Allan Megarry, Geoff Moore, and Rossi Milev from Canada have won the 204 Knickerbocker Cup. Second place team Simon Minoprio, from Team Vision Yachting, with Matthew Stuart, Hayden Goodrick, and Stuart Molloy, from New Zealand, came in a close second, forcing a third race in a best two out of three races in the finals. This is the second consecutive win for McLaughlin, and with both teams vowing to return next year for a rematch, the young and very talented Team Vision Yachting, has a very good chance of preventing a "three peat" for McLaughlin.
