Construction Begins at the Library
The construction crew for the new library was expected at some point but arrived unannounced the week of August 23. Construction had been scheduled while awaiting the state's approval, necessary because the library is a school district library and must proceed under the guidelines of the State Education Department. The first stage of construction is making the work site safe for the community and to that end a fence has been erected around the site.

Drago Painting Disappears From High School
In last week's Manhasset Press we showed a photograph of a painting by Ryan Drago, MHS '04, that was chosen for the school's calendar cover. In a bizarre twist, the painting has disappeared from Manhasset High School.

On the Bay
Those who gathered to raise money for Mata's surgery, and to celebrate her chance at a normal life, (see story on page one) spent the day sailing in Manhasset Bay and Long Island Sound. Normally that would be a wonderful way to spend an afternoon and also raise money for a good cause. But on this Saturday, the effects of Charlie came into play, and the Sound and Manhasset Bay had some of the worst weather seen in years. Robbie Lager, race committee chair, reported that there were 25 boats on the starting line, with 4 PHRF divisions with two racing classes and two classes of cruiser/racers, plus four Knickerbocker One Designs.
