  • News: The Manhasset Board of Education Fills Two Key Administrative Positions

    The Board of Education of the Manhasset Public Schools has announced the appointment of Kitty Klein as Director of Guidance and Counseling Services, K-12, effective July 1. Ms. Klein is filling the position left vacant when Mr. Glenn Mehrtens, interim director for two years, left the district. FULL STORY

  • News: Flower Hill Residents Speak Out About St. Francis Hospital

    The majority of the August monthly meeting of the board of trustees of Flower Hill was spent on the public hearing for the proposed expansion of St. Francis Hospital. Since the trustees had already approved the resolution for notice of completion of the Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) last month, this hearing was to give a final overall look at the components of the study to be sure that everyone who had a stake in the proposed construction could he heard. Several residents of Oaktree Lane and Crabapple Road appeared and voiced their concerns. The comments addressed the issues of excessive overhead lighting, night deliveries, street parking and general noise. The residents asked whether these problems would be alleviated or exacerbated during the construction and afterward. Mayor Damascus took a firm stand and insisted that the representatives of the hospital, James Proce and Ruth E. Hennessey keep a written record of complaints lodged by residents and the manner in which they were resolved. Teresa Elkowitz, the legal counsel for the village in this process, amended the FEIS to include specific parameters for deliveries, street parking and the sound attenuation wall.   • Sports: Manhasset Athletes Participate in the 2004 Empire State Games

    The 2004 Empire State Games were held in Binghamton. N.Y. from July, 28 through August 1. There were seven Manhasset juniors who qualified for the 2004 Empire Games. They are Danielle Harris (L.I. Field Hockey), Christopher Finn, Gavin Petraccca, Christopher Peyser, Cullen Molinari (L.I. Boys Lacrosse), Julie Scherer and Kristin Morrison (L.I. Girls Lacrosse). Empire Games medal winners, Julie Scherer, Danielle Harris and Kristin Morrison. Both Julie and Kristin played for the L.I. region in Lacrosse and won the silver medal. Danielle played for the L.I. region in Field Hockey and won a silver medal as well. FULL STORY
