On Saturday, July 10, 1 p.m., the Village of Munsey Park will dedicate a memorial for 1st Lt. Robert T. Munday, a fallen Marine. Lt. Munday was killed in action in Korea on May 29, 1951, as he was leading an ammunition convoy to the front, when his jeep struck a landmine. Lt. Munday was a resident of the Village of Munsey Park who lived on Ryder Road. Lt. Munday's sacrifice for our freedom was brought to the attention of the village by Col. Robert W. Rust, USMCR (Ret.), a former resident of Flower Hill and a friend of Lt. Munday.
Funding for the memorial has been provided by Colonel Rush and the surviving officers of Lt. Munday's First Special Basic Class in Quantico, VA. The ceremony will be held by the flagpole at the intersection of Park Avenue and Manhasset Woods Road and will include the dedication of a stone and memorial plaque. Arrangements have been made for a Marine Corps color guard to be in attendance. Police will be diverting traffic for approximately one hour.
