When there is a contested election as there is at present in the Manhasset School District, we are accustomed to receiving a number of letters endorsing one or another candidate. We will try to publish all we receive and we still have one more edition of the Manhasset Press before the election. We love to get these letters. They serve to inform our readers and certainly stimulate interest in the election. We would also like to congratulate our letter writers this year. They stress the qualities that will make the candidates they support valuable members of the school board. In fact we have been mightily impressed by the caliber of those candidates. As part of a chain of newspapers we get to see letters written to all of our papers and are sometimes discouraged by their tone. Personal vendettas are fought on the letters page; attacks are made against opposing candidates. We have seen none of that this year. Manhasset is well-served by its residents who have taken the trouble to learn about the candidates and express their support in such an articulate and civil manner.
