The Village of Munsey Park held its annual meeting and budget hearing on April 14. The preliminary budget was adopted. The tax rate and tax levy will be an agenda item for the May 12 meeting of the board of trustees but it does not appear that there will be a tax increase.
At the annual election trustee Vincent J. Syracuse received 49 votes; trustee Peter Puttre 45 votes and Joan Sakman received nine write-in votes. At the April 14 meeting the board of trustees reappointed Lenore Regan deputy clerk/court clerk, reappointed Anthony S. DiProperzio building inspector, reappointed Francis J. Coughlin Jr. acting justice. Trustee Tan was absent but the appointments were approved by those present, Mayor Nicolaides, Trustee Jaronczyk, Trustee Puttre and Trustee Syracuse.
Mayor Nicolaides appointed Trustee Syracuse deputy mayor. He appointed John B. Turano village justice until the next village election when he must run for the balance of the unexpired term, which will expire April 2006. Debora Celebre was appointed the village's representative to the Manhasset Bay Protection Committee.
The Manhasset Press was designated the official newspaper for the year 2004-2005. The official depositories for the village funds were designated Fleet Bank, Chase Bank and MBIA Class.
Meeting dates were set for the second Wednesday of each month with meetings to begin at 8 p.m. Board of Zoning Appeals meetings will be held the third Monday of each month at 7:30 p.m. provided that they have business to transact.
There was only one bid for tree removal and pruning, from Harder Tree Service. The bid was lower than other bidders last year and Trustee Syracuse moved that the bid for pruning and removal of village trees be awarded to Harder Service, Inc., not to exceed a total of $32,000. The board approved the motion.
The board approved the holding of the annual SCA Fair at Munsey Park School on May 1, 2004. The clerk told the board that all of the insurance was in order and the 6th Precinct will provide the necessary police officers.
The board also authorized the annual Molloy Memorial 5K Run to be held on Saturday, June 12. The map has the same route as last year and all insurance is in order.
