It's On to Oregon for Eight Manhasset Students
Amidst an excellent field of student scientists selected to compete in the second round of the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair, Manhasset School District students shone the brightest. After two full days of judging, five Manhasset High School science research projects were selected to represent Long Island at the INTEL International Science and Engineering Fair in Portland, OR on May 14. This is more than double the number of science research projects chosen from any other high school on Long Island.
Chris Burke of Manhasset Named One of Top 100 Irish Americans of the Year
Chris Burke, president and founder of Tuesday's Children, a preeminent national nonprofit service organization that has made an 18-year commitment to provide services to 9/11 families, was named as one of the top 100 Irish Americans of the Year by Irish America magazine.
Fifth Grade Boys Make Final Eight
St Mary's 5th Grade Boys' Basketball team finished off an 11-1 regular season with a strong showing in the Nassau-Suffolk CYO Playoffs, making it to the Elite Eight this year. The final game featured a tremendous battle against a powerful St Patrick's team from Smithtown. St Mary's came back from an early 10-point deficit refusing to give up and showed their true spirit and determination. Unfortunately, St Patrick's made a couple of key shots at the end of the game and St Mary's ended up falling short in the effort by a score of 38-33.
St. Mary's 5th Grade Boys' Season Ends in Second Round of Playoffs
St. Mary's scintillating season of hopes and dreams were dashed last Saturday by a powerful and undefeated St. Raymond's squad 34-29, in the second round of the CYO Nassau/Suffolk County playoffs, but the underdogs' mighty march into postseason play will be remembered more for their will and determination than anything else.
