Led by Erik Lawrence's (10) county championship in the 3200 meter run (10 pts.); Troy Williams (12) county championship in the long jump (10 pts.) and a county championship in the 800 meter relay (10 pts.) run by Cary Choy (11), Troy Williams (12), William Curry (12) and David Young (12) the boys team was runner-up county champions to a strong Westbury team. The county championship was held Saturday night, Feb. 7, at Suffolk County College. The runner-up or county championship has been the normal performance by the team in recent years.

Other important scorers for Manhasset were Tom Papain (11) who scored (2 pts.) in the 3200 meter run; Erik Lawrence (4 pts.) in the 1600 meter run; Matt Sutherland (10) (1 pt.) in the 600 meter run; David Young (12) and Cary Choy (11) scored (3 pts.) in the 55 meter dash; Lionel Hampton (12) 1 pt. in the high jump; Troy Williams, William Curry, Matt Sutherland, and David Young (8 pts.) in the 1600 meter relay and Matt Brennan (10), George Ehrnhardt (12), Yousuf Qureshi (11) and Erik Lawrence scored (2 pts.) in the 3200 meter relay. Strong performances by all these athletes (many of them personal best) helped overcome big early leads by Lynbrook and Wheatley. At meet's end Manhasset edged Lynbrook and Wheatley for second place - Manhasset 51, Lynbrook 49 and Wheatley 48.
