The first week of February was a tough one for the Manhasset Girls Varsity Basketball Team. Coming into the week with an undefeated record, the girls would play Roosevelt on Tuesday, Island Trees on Thursday, and Clark on Friday. They certainly rose to the challenge.
Manhasset's win against Roosevelt brought their record to 10-0. Manhasset, although struggling in the first half defeated Roosevelt 54 to 35. Meghan Clarke scored all 12 of her points during the second half and made two 3-point shots. Danielle Iervolino scored 11 points and made three 3-point shots. Kathleen Kelly scored 10 points and made two 3-pointers. Juliet White, Meghan Gaffney, and Laura Molins played great defense and had many rebounds on both the offensive and defensive ends.
On Thursday, the girls played Island Trees at Manhasset for the second time. Manhasset's first game against Island Trees went into overtime and Manhasset won 45 to 38. Again, Manhasset defeated Island Trees 46 to 40 in a close game. Kathleen Kelly hit two consecutive three-pointers from the left wing to give Manhasset a 42-38 lead with 1:10 left. Kelly had 10 points and seven steals, and Laura Molins added 10 points and 11 rebounds. Also scoring for Manhasset were Meghan Clarke (8), Dani Iervolino (4), Juliet White (6), Cailinn Connoly (4), and Meghan Gaffney (4).
It was Friday's win against Clarke that closed Manhasset's conference record to an undefeated 12-0. Manhasset defeated Clarke 45 to 34. Meghan Clarke had 12 points and five assists for Manhasset. Juliet White added eight points and 12 rebounds. Kathleen Kelly (8), Dani Iervolino (6), Alison Herdemian (2), Meghan Gaffney (3), Laura Molins (3), and Cailinn Connolly (3) also scored for Manhasset.
The girls played like conference champions this week. They're hard work throughout the season has made them deserving of their undefeated conference record.
