John D. McCormick, 33-year resident of Manhasset, died at St. Francis Hospital Feb. 7, following open heart surgery. He is survived by his wife, Eileen; by daughters Mary Clare Eros (Shepherdstown, W VA) and Sarah Malone (Albuquerque, NM); by sons John D., Jr. (Asbury, NJ), Michael (Crownpoint, IN) and Bill (Freeport, LI) and by 16 grandchildren. John was preceded in death by an infant daughter (Ellen) and by Patricia McCormick Rutherford in 1990.
John was born in Minneapolis, MN and graduated from the University of Minnesota School of Business in 1941. Following Pearl Harbor, he enlisted in the US Navy V-7 program and was commissioned an Ensign on Oct. 30, 1941. He served three years in the Pacific, returning to Minneapolis after VJ Day to resume pre-war work.
In 1950, John entered the commercial finance field via the First Acceptance Corp. in Minneapolis. A 1963 move to St. Louis, MO with AIC Financial Corp. precipitated a 1971 transfer to New York when Marine Midland Bank (NY) acquired the St. Louis firm. John retired from Marine Midland in 1982.
John was a long-term member of St. Mary's where he served as a eucharistic minister. His funeral Mass will be celebrated next Saturday, Feb. 14, at 11:15 a.m. Visitation is at Fairchild's Friday, Feb. 13, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. Burial will be in Minneapolis.
Catherine (nee Lasser) Shea of Manhasset died on Feb. 2, 2004. She was predeceased by her husband, Raymond F. Shea. She is survived by her children, Jacqueline Kane (Anthony), Candice, Raymond Jr., Thomas (Peggy), Nancy Bluhm (Ken), and Suzy Smith (Bill); and by 10 grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Fairchild Funeral Chapel in Manhasset. A funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Mary's R. C. Church in Manhasset on Friday, Feb. 6, with interment following at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
Frank A. Snee of Manhasset died on Feb. 3, 2004, at the age of 85. He was the beloved husband of Ronnie; loving father of John, Bill (Carol), Mary Ann Steinmeyer (Dean); adored grandfather of Alex, Michael, D. J. and Alanna; and dear brother of Marie Gula of Manhasset.
Frank was a World War II veteran of the Army Air Force. He was active in the Manhasset American Legion and also in the Knights of Columbus. Frank and Ronnie were blessed to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with their children on Jan. 30, 2004.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Mary's R. C. Church on Feb. 7 with interment following in Holy Rood Cemetery.
