Gordon Wilson Awarded Air Medal With Bronze Star
Last year students in St. Mary's Elementary School third grade and students in the Religious Education Program third grade wrote letters to Lt. Commander Gordon Wilson who was serving in Iraq. Gordon's mother, Patty Wilson, teaches one of the classes. Lt. Commander Wilson wrote to the children through a letter in the Manhasset Press, thanking them for their good wishes and telling them something of his service in Iraq.
Dr. Bozzomo Addresses the Community Liaison Committee
The Community Liaison Committee (CLC) is a forum for examining and discussing local concerns. The usual format is to engage speakers who address issues affecting Manhasset residents or, on a larger scale, affecting the Town of North Hempstead. Last week Dr. Lawrence Bozzomo, Superintendent of Schools, addressed the group of 17 in an ongoing effort by the school district to target specific community groups in order to explain and promote the bond issue.
MHS Girls Basketball Starts Out Strong
The Manhasset Girls Varsity Basketball team won its 3rd league game, making their conference record 3-0 when they defeated Valley Stream South on Jan. 9. Manhasset defeated Valley Stream South 57 to 22. Meghan Clarke, a junior, scored a career-high of 29 points for Manhasset, making five three-point shots. Dani Iervolino, an eighth grader, scored 12 points. Manhasset outscored Valley Stream South 20-6 in the third quarter. Also scoring for Manhasset was Kathleen Kelly (4), Mary Cuddihy (1), Juliet White (6), Christine Nash (1), and Laura Molins (4).
