The Manhasset boys swim team entered the 2003-04 season with their lowest ranking in the last decade. After losing a senior class that consisted of 5 All-Division/ All-Conference swimmers to graduation, the Indians were ranked 15th out of 18 teams in Nassau County. In their conference they are ranked 6th out of nine teams. According to their pre-season ranking, this year was a rebuilding year.

The season began with two tough non-league losses to opponents Long Beach and Bellmore-Merrick. The third meet of the season was another non-league opponent, Plainview. Manhasset upset the 6th seed in the county by a score of 53-48.

The first meet of the Indians' conference schedule was against second seeded Jericho. Before this year Manhasset had defeated Jericho seven consecutive times. However, this year Jericho appeared to have the edge, returning two of the top swimmers in the conference along with the top diver. Many coaches predicted them to be the conference favorites.

The Indians hoped to give the Jayhawks a close meet by utilizing their outstanding depth. Led by seniors Greg Roberts, John Love, Will Lopez, Alex Vecchio and Mike Karges the Manhasset team dominated the meet from the start. Every Manhasset swimmer and diver scored points as the Indians built an early lead. Manhasset finished its game plan to perfection, winning all the freestyle events and placing every swimmer in a point scoring position. The final score (6th seeded) Manhasset 107- Jericho (2nd seed) 78.

The team is comprised of juniors Mike Zito, Heff Hunt, Arya Morshed, James O'Hanlon and Pete Cobos, sophomores Jimmy Mulderrig, Alex Smitham, Brian Cogan, Phil Kim, John Kenneally and David Nebel and freshmen Mike Gotimer and James McKenna.
