Every so often it seems like a good idea to remind our readers (and contributors) of a few ground rules when submitting articles, news or letters to the Manhasset Press. Most of the papers are delivered on Thursday, which means that they are delivered to the post office on Wednesday. Working backwards, you can figure that the paper is printed on Tuesday evenings. Go back one more day and you arrive at Monday, which is the last day that we can accept material for that week's paper. Since laying out the paper takes some time, the deadline of Monday at noon is a firm one. (This doesn't mean that if something really important happens Monday afternoon we don't want to hear about it.) The fact that Monday at noon is the deadline doesn't mean that we aren't delighted to receive your news the previous week. In fact we really need items for the calendar a full week ahead of publication date. Submissions should be typed if at all possible. If it is not possible, at least make sure that the handwriting is legible. This is especially true when it comes to people's names where spelling is important. During the past year e-mail has become a favored way to submit material to the paper. Our e-mail address is e_brennan@antonnews.com. If photos are submitted via e-mail, they should be sent as jpg attachments. Letters to the Editor must be signed or they will not be considered for publication no matter how interesting or well written they are.
