For months we have been trying to get an explanation as to why the football field lights are often left on all night and during inclement weather. We have never been able to get a satisfactory explanation and have been constrained to live with the fact that apparently Superintendent Bozzomo and the school board are either indifferent to the issue or simply incapable of adopting procedures that would shut off the lights when the field is not in use. We see the lights as a litmus test that allows us to measure the responsibility of those who administer our schools. The lights were left on Christmas Eve during a torrential downpour. Perhaps those in charge thought it was necessary to light the way so that Santa could find Manhasset in the rain? We doubt it and are forced to wonder how Dr. Bozzomo and the school board can be trusted to properly plan the expansion of our schools and manage a multimillion dollar bond issue when they cannot handle something as basic as turning off the lights in the rain!
