  • News: Architect Details School Bond Specifics

    The Manhasset administration and the board of education (BOE) directed their architect, Roger Smith, of Burton, Behrendt & Smith (BBS), to reduce and itemize the $62.5 million conceptual plan in order to meet the demands of a community that had found the district's original plan preposterous both in its price tag and lack of specifics. He identified three areas of discussion-secondary school expansion and renovation, district wide infrastructure and a new bus garage. Roger Smith came prepared with a power point presentation of over 70 slides. He had specifics and line by line costs. He did an excellent job presenting the district's position. The only problem is that not everyone embraces all the components of the district's position. FULL STORY

  • News: In Spite of Blizzard, Tree lighting Goes On

    Despite the season's first blizzard and impassable traffic, the Manhasset Park District held the Annual Tree Light Ceremony on Friday, December 5. Commissioners Pat Roberts and Mark Sauvigne, along with the Chamber of Commerce's Nancy Morris welcomed Manhasset's intrepid to the Mary Jane Davies Gazebo where they snacked on donuts and hot chocolate while the poster contest winners were announced. Those winners were for Nursery and Kindergarten: Peter Furlong and Jillian Calderone from Our Lady of Grace and Kristina DiCarlo from Munsey Park; Grade 1: Patrick Pollicino, Bryant Born and Tara Ferraris from St. Mary's; Grade 2:Cara DePippo and Halie LaViano from Munsey Park and Emily Koufakis and Erin Coleman from St. Mary's; Grade 3: Elise Simon from Munsey Park, Courtney Smotkin from Shelter Rock and Caitlin Vanderberg from St. Mary's; Grade 4: Maggie Furlong from LI School for Gifted, Grant Weiss from Munsey Park, and Regan McCooey from St. Mary's; Grade 5-6: Megan Malafronte and Sarah Furlong from Shelter Rock and Patrick DePippo from Munsey Park. The overall winner was Megan Malafronte from Shelter Rock whose art teacher is Myrna Schein. FULL STORY

  • Sports: MHS Girls Win Hoffman Tournament

    The Manhasset girls Varsity Basketball Team defended their title last weekend as winners of the twentieth annual Barbara Hoffman Girls Invitation Basketball Tournament. The tournament honors Barbara Hoffman, a former physical education teacher and coach at Manhasset High School. Barbara was recognized for her commitment to the students at Manhasset as well as her leadership in developing a girl's athletic program at Manhasset. FULL STORY
