  • News: Comments From the November 10 Board of Education Meeting

    The Manhasset Board of Education (BOE) meeting held Nov. 10 was primarily to examine the community 's thoughts on the proposed $62.5 million school bond issue but there was a lot more going on. Comments were made on many issues including: enrollment projections; lack of confidence in the district's ability to deal with unions and with rising costs; concern regarding the tracking of and accountability for funds voted for specific purposes; and the need for specific information on the costs of the proposed $62.5 million school bond.     St. Mary's I, 6th grade girls basketball team improved to eight wins with no losses after back-to-back victories this past Saturday and Sunday. FULL STORY

  • Sports: Troop 71 Begins Fall Outdoors Program

    At a Court of Honor in October, Scoutmaster Lawrence Bourguet presided over the awarding of what may be the troop's record number of merit badges, 72 in all, earned at camp this past Summer. As had been the troop's custom for the past 10 years, a contingent of boys, led by Assistant Scoutmaster Edward Wachowicz and other parents, attended Camp Yawgoog in Rhode Island. Later in the summer, Mr. Bourguet and other parents took another contingent from the troop to our council's own Camp Onteora, newly reopened on a full-summer basis for the first time since 1989. The badges earned by the boys covered the full gamut of aquatic, camping, nature and handicraft subjects, everything from Lifesaving to Astronomy. In addition to the 72 camp badges, six of the Scouts were also awarded the fingerprinting merit badge, earned at the district Camporee the previous weekend. FULL STORY
