An article on page 17 of the Nov. 6 issue of the Manhasset Press by Stan Germain on behalf of the school district alleged that the school district does not set the school tax rate.

However, on page 2 of the instructions issued by the Nassau County Assessment Review Commission, the Commission states: "The tax rates are set by each district's budget approval process."

Mr. Germain seems to be of the opinion that there is an actual rate and a non-actual rate. Also, Mr. Germain claims that when a taxpayer receives a tax bill, the taxpayer has received a "piece of pie."

Mr. Germain also alleged that the school district will receive less state aid and interest income this year than last year. The information on this year's school tax bill indicates that state aid is $2,791,500, while last year's school tax bill indicates that state aid was $1,404,989.
