"Watch your back!" was good advice the day I visited the Glen Cove soup kitchen, an affiliate of the North Shore INN, and saw firsthand the bustling efficiency. Before my arrival The Metropolitan in Glen Cove phoned and said they had food donations. Two male volunteers drove to the site and returned with seven restaurant sized steam table trays.
Chamber of Commerce Honors Service Clubs
The Manhasset Chamber of Commerce held its annual Man/Woman of the Year Cocktail Party on Sunday, Nov. 2, at Strathmore Vanderbilt Country Club. This year's honorees were the members of Manhasset's two major service clubs, The Rotary Club of Manhasset and the Manhasset Kiwanis Club. Chamber Co-Presidents Diane Harragan and Rochelle Dowling made presentations to Kiwanis President Joe LaBella and Rotary President Don Zerbarini.
Coalition Run Draws Crowd
The Manhasset Womens Coalition Against Breast Cancer held its 5th Annual 5K Walk/Run for the Cure on Oct. 26. The warm, dry day brought out 547 participants ranging from 2 months to 78 years old. DJ Vic Macalusos' music got everyone in the mood, while MaryLou DeVenoge and Steve Panzik stretched and warmed up the crowd. Refreshments provided by Nancy Morris/State Farm, Gourmet Bagels, Manhasset Restaurant, and Ginos were enjoyed both before and after the race. Congratulations to this years winners and all who made it up Rockwood Road.

Cross Country is one of those sports where statistics don't mean a thing, especially in the county meet. You can compare a team's top five with your top five, analyze one's improvement over the course of the year, chart their ups and downs, but no matter which way you put it, it all comes down to the big race in the end, where dreams are shattered, streaks are broken, and champions are born.
