On Saturday, Sept. 27 at around 9:30 a.m., my husband lost control of our car on the westbound side of the Service Road to the L.I.E. in between Searingtown Road and Shelter Rock Road. Before he lost consciousness he managed to give my name and phone number to a Good Samaritan who stopped when he saw the wreckage. This gentleman called 911 and me and stayed with him until the ambulance arrived. Unfortunately, I never got the chance to thank him or get his name so I hope somehow my gratitude finds its way to him. I'd also like to thank the wonderful staff of the 6th Precinct, especially P.O. D'Alto, and the EMTs who so efficiently and professionally cared for my husband and were so reassuring and comforting to a hysterical wife. Thanks also go to Dr. Yellin and his trauma team at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, the residents and nurses, the staff of the surgical intensive care unit, and Dr. Rak, neurosurgeon extraordinaire who made all the right decisions. And to anyone who is always in a hurry to get somewhere, slow down. Trust me, you don't want to be on the receiving end of a Good Samaritan's call.
